Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument, at 2332 Margaret Walker Alexander Dr., honors civil rights activists Myrlie Evers-Williams and Medgar Evers and their lives and legacy. Achievements included the establishment of Jackson's NAACP office as well as boycotts, voter drives and the 1962 integration of the University of Mississippi. Medgar Evers, who served as the first state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi, was shot to death by a white supremacist outside the home on June 12, 1963.
