U.S. National Whitewater Center is at 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.; from I-85 exit 29, proceed 1 mi. n. on Sam Wilson Rd., then 0.7 mi. w. on Moores Chapel Rd., following signs. This year-round outdoor lifestyle facility, home to what is billed as the world's largest man-made recirculating river and the first permanent Deep Water Solo Climbing Complex in the world offers outdoor fun for every age and skill level. Guided trips on Class II, III and IV rapids are geared to both families and experienced rafters. More leisurely pursuits include stand-up paddleboarding and flatwater kayaking on the adjacent Catawba River. The Whitewater Center also features a variety of free events including live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, daily yoga practices, weekly clinics and group trail runs May through September.

In addition to water recreation, the facility's 1,300 acres offer ziplines, ropes courses, tower jumps, a canopy tour, rock climbing and more than 45 miles of trails for mountain biking, hiking and running. A woodsy retreat just northwest of the city center, this is a great place for families.

Various activity passes are offered. Age and weight restrictions apply.

Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.
