Bennett Place State Historic Site is at 4409 Bennett Memorial Rd., 4 mi. n.w. off US 70/I-85 exit 173 southbound or 170 northbound. The site includes the restored Bennett House, where the largest Confederate troop surrender of the Civil War took place on Apr. 26, 1865. It was here that Gen. Joseph E. Johnston surrendered some 89,000 soldiers to Gen. William T. Sherman. Additional exhibits pertaining to the Civil War also are displayed in the visitor center.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
