AAA Editor Notes
Jump-Off Rock is on the summit of Jump-off Mountain, 5 mi. w. via Fifth Ave. According to legend, a Native American chief and a Cherokee maiden often met on the rock. When she learned of her love's death in battle, the heartbroken maiden jumped off the ledge, and it's said that on some moonlit nights her ghost can be seen on the rock. Visitors are more likely, however, to encounter panoramic views of the Blue Ridge and Pisgah mountain ranges.
