AAA Editor Notes
State Capitol is at the end of N. Sixth St. at 600 E. Boulevard Ave. An example of Art Deco architecture, the Capitol stands at the head of a landscaped mall. The exterior of the 19-story building often referred to as the “skyscraper of the prairie” is white limestone on a black granite base. Memorial Hall boasts 40-foot bronze pillars, black marble and Yellowstone travertine walls and marble floors.

The building contains the Roughrider Gallery, which has portraits of famous North Dakotans. Upstairs are the offices of the state's executive and judiciary agencies. The circular three-story west wing contains the legislative chambers, and the east wing houses the state supreme court. An observation deck on the 18th floor affords a view of the city and the surrounding countryside.
