The Basin

The Basin, reached by trail from I-93 (Franconia Notch Pkwy.) n. of The Flume Gorge, is a deep glacial pothole at the base of a waterfall. Measuring 20 feet in diameter and 15 feet deep, its sides have been polished smooth by sand, stones and water. Below the basin the Pemigewasset River tumbles through the Baby Flume, a smaller version of the well-known gorge. The area includes walking paths, hiking trails and picnic tables.
