Kancamagus Highway (SR 112), traverses the forest between Conway and Lincoln. It follows the Swift River Valley, passing Rocky Gorge Scenic Area, old Passaconaway and Sabbaday Falls. After crossing 2,860-foot Kancamagus Pass, the highway drops into the Pemigewasset Valley. Overlooks, picnic sites and campgrounds are scattered along the 34.5-mile route.

Self-guiding trails are near Covered Bridge Campground and at the Russell Colbath Historic Site, 12 miles from Conway near the junction with Bear Notch Road, which leads to Bartlett. About 1.5 miles west of Lincoln is the White Mountains Visitor Center, which dispenses recreation information year-round. Seasonal interpretive programs and brochures detailing the history of the area are available.

Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
