Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge St., is a French Gothic-style cathedral comparable in size to London's Westminster Abbey and resembling the basilica at Rheims, France. Dedicated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark in 1953, more than 50 years after construction started, the cathedral features hand-carved reredos (altar screens), more than 200 stained-glass windows, bronze doors and 14 bells cast in Italy. The towers are 232 feet high.
