Salmon Ruin is 2 mi. w. on US 64 to 6131 US 64. The site was built in the late 11th century by people from the Chaco culture. The E-shaped masonry complex measuring 450 feet along the back wall and 150 feet along the arms features an elevated kiva in the center of the pueblo and an excavated great kiva. Some of the more than 1 million artifacts recovered are displayed in San Juan County Archaeological Research Center and Library, next to the ruin.
