Fort William Henry Museum is on US 9 (Canada St.) in the center of town. This 1755-57 British fort was the subject of James Fenimore Cooper's “The Last of the Mohicans.” The replica contains barracks, stockades, dungeons and fort artifacts. Living-history demonstrations include canon and musket firing. The Archeological Room contains an exhibit about the sunken fleet of 1758. The Spirit of History Ghost Tour explores sites thought to be haunted.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.

$16.75; $13.75 (ages 62+); $7.75 (ages 5-15); free (active military and veterans with ID). Ghost tours $18; $8 (ages 5-15). Reservations are required for ghost tours.
Hours
Daily 9:30-6, May-Oct. Last admission 1 hour before closing. Tours are given at 10, noon, 2 and 4. Night ghost tours depart Wed.-Sun. at 7:30, 8, 9 and 9:30, July-Aug.; Thurs.-Sat. at 7:30 and 9, late May-June 30 and Sept.-Oct. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
