Empire State Building

Empire State Building, 16 W. 34th St., is without a doubt the most famous office building in New York City, and perhaps in the world. Soaring 1,454 feet, it has 2.8 million square feet of office space and was the world's tallest building 1931-1970.

The Art Deco skyscraper is made of Indiana limestone and granite trimmed with sparkling stainless steel. The lobby features marble imported from Belgium, France, Germany and Italy. The top 30 floors are lit year-round from dusk to 2 a.m., with colors changing throughout the year.

The package of visitor amenities making up The Empire State Building Experience includes the 86th-floor observatory (1,050 feet), where visitors can see approximately 80 miles. The second-floor visitors' center features an exhibit describing a multi-year project to make the skyscraper more energy efficient. The building's history is recounted in the 80th floor's Dare to Dream exhibit. For an additional fee, visitors can take another elevator to the circular, glass-enclosed observatory on the 102nd floor (1,250 feet).
