AAA Editor Notes
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is docked at Pier 86 on W. 46th St. at 12th Ave. The aircraft carrier Intrepid proudly served in World War II, Vietnam and the Cold War, and was one of NASA's primary recovery vessels for the space program before being converted into a museum. The hangar deck houses various exhibit halls, multimedia presentations, interactive exhibits and flight simulators, while the flight deck is filled with historic aircraft such as the A-12 Blackbird supersonic jet. Life aboard a modern U.S. aircraft carrier is simulated through audio and high definition visual technology in a theater presentation.

Visitors can also tour the inside of the Cold War-era guided missile submarine Growler, as well as the world’s fastest commercial jet, the Concorde supersonic passenger aircraft.

The museum is also home to the retired space shuttle Enterprise, the first orbiter in NASA's space shuttle fleet. Within the Space Shuttle Pavilion, Enterprise sits just 10 feet off the ground, allowing visitors to walk directly underneath this historic artifact, while an elevated viewing platform allows guests to gain even greater perspective. Seventeen exhibit zones feature original artifacts, photographs, audio and films that immerse visitors in the science and history of Enterprise and the space shuttle era.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
