American Independence Museum, 1 Governors Ln., is within the restored Ladd-Gilman House, built in 1721. Formerly known as Cincinnati Hall, the house served as the state treasury during the American Revolution. John Taylor Gilman, an early governor of New Hampshire, lived there during his 14 gubernatorial terms. On display is a first printing of the Dunlap Broadside, also known as the Declaration of Independence, and two drafts of the U.S. Constitution. The museum complex also features the 1775 Folsom Tavern, where George Washington paid a visit in 1789.
