Duke Farms is at 1112 Dukes Pkwy. W. First developed by tobacco and hydropower magnate James Buchanan Duke in 1893 and later enhanced by his daughter, Doris, this 2,740-acre estate features wetlands, buildings, fountains and stone walls. Open to the public, it allows recreational opportunities such as geocaching and biking, as well as environmental programs.

Many buildings have been repurposed with eco-friendly power and water systems. The Orientation Center, which is on the first floor of the Farm Barn, presents interactive exhibits on land stewardship and sustainability. Orchids and exotic flowers from around the world can be seen in Doris Duke's greenhouses.

Note: Trails and paths may require full mobility as they are undeveloped, with loose gravel or wood chips. Motor vehicle traffic is limited, but a tram makes regular stops, including at the conservatory/greenhouse.

Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
