Whalehead in Historic Corolla is off SR12N at 1100 Club Rd., in Historic Corolla Park. The Art Nouveau structure, built 1922-25, was the home of waterfowl hunting enthusiasts Mr. & Mrs. E.C. Knight, Jr. Said to be the first residence on the Outer Banks to contain a basement, elevator and swimming pool, the structure features original cork floors, “corduroy” walls and Tiffany light fixtures. A boathouse, boat basin and footbridge are on the grounds.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
