Cabin Rooms very iffy
Pros: Best is the lake and the pool. You can canoe or kayak around the lake, which is not big but full of nice little vistas and wildlife. We saw a juvenile green heron, hanging out in a tree overhanging the water, and were able to get quite close in the canoe and observe from about 15 feet for a while. We also say a great blue heron on shore next to the water, and he let us get within 10 feet to quietly observe. I've seen many great blues, but not that close for so long. The pool is also nice. Breakfast is good.
Cons: The negatives have to do with the CABIN ROOMS - the other rooms might be fine. The cabin rooms are rustic gentile, with emphasis on the rustic (dark, kind of shabby, window air conditioning, funny smells). Importantly, they are duplexes, that can open up for a full cabin experience if you have a crowd. But the noise transfer when you are staying in one side of the duplex can be considerable. In our first stay, there was a lovely couple with a dog. The dog whined the entirety of the time they were out for dinner, no big deal. This time, however, the cabin next door has an extended family and the duplex next to us had a mom with baby, also part of that family. The baby woke us at 5:00 am the first night, no big deal. But the day was full of people going in and out of her side of the cabin, leaving stuff all around the shared porch, making gross sounds (loud belching and similar), and, later, having a pizza party where the kids smeared sauce all over the nice metal shared swinging benches and left pizza scattered around overnight on the porch. That same night the baby cried most of the night. I got 2 hours of sleep before a long drive, and woke up to a place that had the common areas trashed. So, shabby can mean that trashy people might choose to be there too maybe. Anyway, I'll not take the chance again, and the cost for such a place is crazy. The staff and management seemed fine, and were unhappy to hear of our experience. But really there is no control to be exerted when people that gross and selfish are there to cohabit.
