Charles B. Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site, approximately 1 mi. s. off US 117 at 264 Governor Aycock Rd., is the birthplace of this former governor and founder of North Carolina's 20th-century public educational system. The restored farmhouse and one-room school date from 1870 and 1893, respectively. Farm animals live on the grounds. The visitor center offers a slide presentation and exhibits.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
