Latta Place

Latta Place, within Quest Nature Center and Latta Nature Preserve at 5225 Sample Rd., is the circa 1800 cotton plantation and home of James Latta, a prominent businessman in the community, and his wife Jane. Once covering 750 acres, the property is nestled on a peninsula along the Catawba River. The two-story Federal-style house is furnished in period; architectural highlights include a finely detailed staircase and elaborate mantels. Outbuildings include the kitchen, a smokehouse, provisions barn, corn crib, feed barn, and animal barn.
