Conservatory Water is between 72nd and 75th sts. on the east side of Central Park. Inspired by the model boat ponds of late 19th-century Paris, the shimmering pond dotted with miniature sails is one of the most loved spaces within the park. From April through October, children and boat enthusiasts navigate radio- and wind-powered vessels across the waters. In the coldest winter months, the pond's water level is frequently lowered for free public ice skating. In the summer, the beloved Hans Christian Andersen statue west of the pond is home to a children's storytelling series on Saturday at 11.
