The Cloisters is in Fort Tryon Park at 99 Margaret Corbin Dr., first exit n. of George Washington Bridge off Henry Hudson Pkwy. Devoted to medieval art, this branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art overlooks the Hudson River; visitors can stroll along the paths of the adjacent park and observe lovely landscaped areas as well as experience views of the river and city.

The Cloisters includes sections of five European monasteries that were deconstructed, shipped to New York and reassembled in the 1930s; structures designed in the medieval style were added to complement this historic architecture. Collections focus on European medieval works and include statues, paintings, stained-glass windows and Flemish tapestries.

Magnificent examples of stonework can be observed throughout the complex and within its courtyards. The site also features a Romanesque chapel and extensive gardens.
