Erie Canal Museum, 318 Erie Blvd. E., is in the 1850 Syracuse Weighlock Building. Designed to weigh canal boats for assessing a toll, this building is reputedly the only surviving structure of its kind in the country. The museum features a full-size canal boat replica; artifacts, maps and images detailing Erie Canal construction and early canal life; hands-on exhibits; changing exhibits; and the Syracuse Heritage Area Visitor Center.
