The Wild Center is off SR 3 at 45 Museum Dr. Explore the natural history of the Adirondacks through films, hands-on exhibits and live animals, both inside and outside The Wild Center. Learn about nature on indoor trails that feature a waterfall, a forest, a river and ponds; otters, owls, birds, fish and amphibians coexist here. Watch fish, ducks and turtles swim lazily in a pond, or be entertained by bewhiskered otters as they dive, swim and play around a small waterfall. Animal encounters and feedings take place throughout the day.
The wonders of nature are the topic of high-definition widescreen films at the Flammer Theater. Outdoors is an audio installation called iForest that unfolds around you as you walk along a forest trail. Knowledgeable naturalists take you on a guided paddleboard tour of the Raquette River Oxbow which winds through the 115-acre campus, and children can get back to nature in The Pines, an outdoor play area with forts.
Wild Walk includes a treehouse and spacious platforms connected by a web of bridges and raised walkways that twist and turn at 40-feet above the ground of the forest. Fascinating stories and interactive stations along the Walk capture the living Adirondack forest in intimate detail.
The Wild Center is LEED-certified; it was made with locally sourced materials, including stone and wood, and utilizes solar heating, an energy-efficient boiler system, water cisterns and recycled flooring made from tires.
Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
