Harmar Village is at jct. Maple and Gilman sts.; it can be reached by automobile via the Putnam Bridge or on foot via the B&O Harmar Bridge, which is a historic railroad bridge. This village, which started as a fort in 1785, contains specialty shops, eateries and three museums.

The Children's Toy and Doll Museum, 206 Gilman Ave., features a permanent collection of dolls, dollhouses, antique toys and a circus room with circus memorabilia; there also are temporary exhibits as well. The 1847 Henry Fearing House, 131 Gilman St., was built in the Federal style, and an Italianate addition was completed in 1870; the interior is furnished in several 19th-century styles. The Historic Harmar Railroad Museum is on 120 Maple St.
