Newark Earthworks is comprised of three sites: Great Circle is 1 mi. s.w. of SR 16 at 455 Hebron Rd. (SR 79); Wright Earthworks can be viewed from James Street, near jct. SR 79 and Grant St. in nearby Newark; and Octagon Earthworks is at jct. N. 33rd St. and Parkview Rd. in Newark. The memorial preserves a portion of the Newark Earthworks, a system of prehistoric mounds used for astronomical, ceremonial and social purposes; they are believed to be the largest such mounds ever built.

Great Circle is 1,200 feet in diameter with grass-covered earthen walls ranging from 8 to 14 feet in height. In the center are four lower connected mounds. On the grounds is a museum/visitor center, which includes an exhibit and a 15-minute video about the site.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
