Spiro Mounds Archeological Center is 3 mi. e. on SR 9, then 4.2 mi. n. at 18154 1st St. Oklahoma's only archeological park, comprising 150 acres, has 12 Native American mounds built 600-1450. The interpretive center displays artifacts and grave goods—valuables buried with the deceased—and explains the symbolism of Native American artwork and ceremonies.
A trail leads to the mounds and the Spiro Culture House, a reproduction of a type of Native American dwelling used circa 1000.
