Bala's Museum With Memories of Lucy Maud Montgomery is at the corner of Maple and River sts. “Anne of Green Gables” author Lucy Maud Montgomery vacationed in Bala in 1922. Another of her books, “The Blue Castle,” is based on that trip. The museum, in the home where Montgomery dined during her stay, is restored to its 1922 appearance and contains artifacts belonging to the author, including an extensive collection of her works, the world's largest "Ann of Green Gables" dollhouse and displays about the history of Bala. There's also a memorial to actor Jonathan Crombie, who played Gilbert in the TV adaptation of "Ann of Green Gables" and died in 2015.
