AAA Editor Notes
Bytown Museum, off Wellington St. at the bottom of Ottawa Locks behind the Château Laurier Hotel at 1 Canal Ln., is in the former commissariat used by the Royal Engineers and Lt. Col. John By during the building of the Rideau Canal. This is the oldest masonry building in the city and contains exhibits and displays about the history of Bytown and Ottawa. There also is a Parks Canada exhibit about the building of the Rideau Canal.
