Niagara Falls is on the Niagara River at the international border between Canada and the United States. The thundering falls, consisting of the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side and American and Bridal Veil falls in the U.S., were formed by a retreating glacier 12,000 years ago. The Canadian falls, 54 metres (177 ft.) high and 675 metres (2,215 ft.) wide, derives its name from its crescent shape.

Often heard before it can be seen, the falls have long been a favorite of honeymooners, making the city of Niagara Falls a favorite of newlyweds. In addition to scenic overlooks in Queen Victoria Park, the grandeur of the falls also can be appreciated by boat, helicopter, observation towers and bridges. The rainbow created at the falls' edge is especially awe-inspiring. The falls are illuminated after dark year-round and seasonal fireworks ignite the night sky.
