Casa Loma, 1 Austin Terr., near the corner of Spadina and Davenport rds., is an Edwardian-style castle 91 metres (300 ft.) high. Built by Canadian financier Sir Henry Pellatt 1911-14, its 98 rooms required $3.5 million and 300 men to build. Decorated suites, secret passageways, a 244-metre (800-ft.) underground tunnel, towers and luxurious stables are some of the castle's many features.
Self-guiding digital audio tours in eight languages and a documentary film on the life of Sir Henry Pellatt are provided. Two hectares (5 acres) of estate gardens surround the castle and are open May through September. A glass pavilion on the grounds hosts concerts on Mon., Tues. and Wed. evenings, mid-June to late Aug.
