The Bata Shoe Museum, 327 Bloor St. W. near the St. George subway station, explores footwear in the social and cultural life of mankind from ancient times to the present through an international collection of more than 13,000 shoes. Among the permanent and rotating exhibits in the award-winning Raymond Moriyama building, designed to represent a lid resting on an open shoebox, are Egyptian sandals dating to 300 BC, smuggler's clogs and footwear worn by such personalities as Winston Churchill, Elton John, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe and Pablo Picasso.

Four interactive displays take a look at footwear's many facets, including its evolution, its uses over time, its past and its place in our lives and imaginations. Highlights include “All about Shoes” and a historical shoe display.

Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
