AAA Editor Notes
Oregon State Hospital Museum of Mental Health is at 2600 Center St. N.E. Located in the original asylum building, the museum features items from the hospital's wards, workshops and connecting tunnels. Photographs, recordings and other saved items document the history of the understanding of mental illness and various treatments at the hospital from 1883 to present. In the mid-1950s, Oregon State Hospital had more than 3,600 patients, but improved treatments have reduced that number to about 700. One exhibit showcases the Academy Award-winning motion picture, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,” filmed here in 1975.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
