Pacific Maritime Heritage Center is at 333 S.E. Bay Blvd. opposite Port Dock 5. The center recounts the area's maritime history through displays of boat models, vintage surfboards, ship's wheels, commercial trolling gear, diving helmets, historic photos and fishermen's flags from Newport's sister city in Japan, among many other nautical items. Artwork with a maritime theme also is on display.
With its ample windows, convenient seating and well-situated deck, the museum makes the most of its hilltop location overlooking the waterfront and Yaquina Bay Bridge. Built in 1925, it was originally a house before serving for many years as a popular restaurant and nightclub.
