McKay Creek National Wildlife Refuge is 7 mi. s. off US 395. The 1,836-acre refuge harbors large numbers of waterfowl, primarily ducks and geese, in an open-water reservoir surrounded by riparian and upland habitats of bunchgrasses, low sage and cottonwood/willow riparian zone.

Limited entry for hunting is permitted 1.5 hours before dawn to 1.5 hours after dusk; an opening weekend hunting permit for upland game is required.
