AAA Editor Notes
American Philosophical Society (APS) Museum is at 104 S. 5th St. at jct. Chestnut St., adjacent to Independence Hall; the museum falls within the boundaries of Independence National Historical Park but is not part of the park. This scholarly society, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin, included John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and many other prominent early Americans. Rotating exhibits are created from the Society's collections, which includes artworks, 300,000 books, important documents, 13 million manuscripts, maps, scientific specimens and instruments, and other items tracing American history from the Founding Fathers to the digital age. Exhibitions showcase the connections between history, science and art.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.

Donations. Guided tours $5; $2 (students with ID).

Thurs.-Sun. 10-5, early Apr.-late Dec. Guided tours are available by 2-week advance reservation Mon.-Wed. 10-4 (requires a minimum of five participants). Closed holidays and when exhibitions are being changed. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
