Coal and Coke Heritage Center on US 119 at 2201 University Dr., on the grounds of Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, in the lower level of the library. This museum chronicles the local coal and coke industries, which fueled the Pittsburgh steel industry, through an extensive collection of items donated by families of former industry employees. The technical aspect of the industry is presented along with the human element of the workers—the problems and opportunities they encountered, the communities (“patches”) they formed, and the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the immigrants as well as the African Americans who arrived from the South. The collection includes artifacts, clothing and photographs.
Among the items in the research archives are documents, maps, newspapers and oral histories.
