Carnegie Museum of Natural History, 4400 Forbes Ave., part of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, is known for its exhibits about earth sciences, life sciences and anthropology. Masterpiece specimens sparkle in Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems where visitors can explore crystallography and mineral formations.

The Halls of African and North American Wildlife show animals in dioramas depicting realistic habitats. Mummies and other treasures from ancient Egypt are displayed in the Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt. The Alcoa Foundation Hall of American Indians includes exhibits about four societies: Tlingit of the Northwest Coast, Hopi of the Southwest, Lakota of the Plains and Iroquois of the Northeast. Polar World: Wyckoff Hall of Arctic Life traces the cultural history of Inuit peoples and their adaptation to the Arctic. Dinosaurs in Their Time presents fossils in scientifically-accurate poses, the result of current evidence.
