Montréal Botanical Garden (Jardin botanique de Montréal) is at 4101 rue Sherbrooke Est, part of Montréal Space for Life (M: Pie-IX). Founded in 1931 by botanist Frère Marie-Victorin, the internationally recognized 75-hectare (180-acre) site showcases more than 26,000 plant species and cultivars, 11 exhibition greenhouses and about 30 thematic gardens. Visitors can discover different aromas, sounds and textures while blindfolded in the Courtyard of Senses or learn about the bond between Amerindian and Inuit peoples and the plant world at the First Nations Garden.

The 2.5-hectare (6-acre) Ming Dynasty style Chinese Garden features plants and trees native to Canada and southern China, including a courtyard with penjings (miniature trees). Other highlights include a 9-metre (30-ft.) waterfall and an ornamental pond. Changing art exhibits are displayed. The garden celebrates The Magic of Lanterns, a show featuring Chinese silk lanterns, mid-September through October 31.

The 2.5-hectare (6-acre) Japanese Garden and Pavilion contains native Canadian plants arranged in traditional Japanese style, with koi ponds, streams and bridges. Among the designs are a stone garden, bonsai courtyard and the tea garden, which leads to the tea ceremony room. The contemporary Japanese pavilion provides a glimpse into the culture of Japan.

In addition, changing exhibits and special events are offered throughout the year.

Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
