AAA Editor Notes
Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic Site (Lieu historique national de Sir-George-Étienne-Cartier), 458 rue Notre-Dame Est in Old Montréal, consists of two adjoining buildings, each a former residence of Sir George-Étienne Cartier. A 19th-century lawyer, businessman and political leader, Cartier helped shape many of Québec's and Canada's institutions. The west house has been carefully restored to its Victorian style and illustrates the lifestyle of the upper-middle class to which Cartier belonged. The east house presents modern exhibits that highlight Cartier's achievements in a period of major changes.
