The Citadel
The Citadel
AAA Editor Notes
The Citadel (La Citadelle) is on the Cap Diamant promontory; the entrance is off rue St-Louis at Porte St-Louis at 1 Côte de la Citadelle. Constructed 1820-52 on the site of 17th-century French defenses, the fortification is one of the two official residences of the governor general of Canada. It remains the largest fortification in North America garrisoned by regular troops. A museum offers modern interactive displays portraying the history of the Citadel and the Royal 22nd Regiment. Lantern-lit night tours, offered during summer and fall, are more theatrical, featuring characters and stories from the past.

Tour narration in English is available.

Guided tours are available.
