Plaza Principal

Plaza Principal is just inland from the malecón, bounded on the n. by Av. Benito Juárez and on the s. by Calle 1 Sur. A bright, mustard-yellow clock tower rises behind the plaza, a red tile-roofed gazebo sits at its center and a bust of lawyer and politician Benito Juárez, who was instrumental in resisting the French invasion of Mexico in 1862, is a tribute to one of the country's most beloved presidents. Tourists stroll the square while vendors hawk their wares in between relaxing and gossiping on wooden benches.
