Place Jacques-Cartier, on the slope from Champs-de-Mars to the waterfront in Old Montréal (M: Champ-de-Mars), contains the Nelson monument, erected in 1809 to honor Lord Horatio Nelson's victory at Trafalgar. Artists, musicians, jugglers, and acrobats perform in the square during the summer. Flower markets, cafés and historic buildings also are highlights of the area.
