The City of Gold (La Cité de l'Or) is at 90 av. Perreault. Step into the boots of a gold miner and descend 91 metres (298 ft.) underground to visit the Old Lamaque Mine. A guide details extraction methods and miners' duties during the tour, which also includes a screening of the short film “The Miner's Symphony.”
Back on the surface, a guided tour of five heritage buildings describes the daily operations of the mining complex. Also offered are such exhibits as GEO/RALLY and Gold in Our Veins as well as a self-guiding audio tour of the Bourlamaque Mining Village, which features 60 log houses.
Note: The temperature in the mine is 8 C (46 F). Warm clothing and closed shoes are recommended. For those unable to visit the mine, a film version of the underground tour is presented on the surface.
