AAA Editor Notes
Slater Mill Historic Site, downtown at 67 Roosevelt Ave., is known as the Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. The restored site, on the banks of the Blackstone River, depicts the transition from 18th-century agricultural life to 19th-century industrial life. Guides lead guests through three historic buildings including the 1758 Sylvanus Brown House and the 1793 Slater Mill, which houses a collection of textile machinery.

An 8-ton water wheel powers the 19th-century machine shop within the 1810 Wilkinson Mill. The Apprentice’s Alcove allows young visitors to run hand-powered machinery.

Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
