Fort Walsh National Historic Site is 55 km (34 mi.) s.w. on Hwy. 271. A preserved, early North West Mounted Police fort features reconstructed period buildings housing exhibits of original post artifacts. Guided tours include excursions to the fort and the site of the 1873 Cypress Hills massacre. Visitor activities include bird-watching, walking a self-guiding nature trail and geocaching. A bus trip around the park includes an interpretive commentary.
