RCMP Heritage Centre is on Dewdney Ave. at the entrance to the RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division. The center tells the story of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), created by an act of Parliament in 1873 to maintain law and order on the Canadian frontier and pave the way for westward settlement. Stretching the length of the main exhibition hall, the sculptural procession “March of the Mounties” anchors the core exhibit areas; graphics trace Canada's geography from west to east and depict the historical evolution of the RCMP from its inception to the present day.

The interactive educational exhibit Maintaining Law and Order in the West chronicles the force's late 19th-century efforts to suppress the whiskey trade, establish amicable relations with Native tribes and ensure the safety of settlers and rail workers. Serving All of Canada is an overview of the RCMP's 20th-century evolution, while Cracking the Case is a hands-on look at the high-tech side of contemporary policing. The 22-minute multimedia presentation “Courage in Red” is shown in the center's SGI Canada Theatre.

Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
