12th Armored Division Memorial Museum is at 1289 N. Second St. Organized in 1942, the 12th Armored Division trained at Camp Barkeley and fought in France, Austria and Germany during World War II. The museum describes the division's history along with that of the Second World War through displays of such armored vehicles as a Sherman tank and a weapons carrier, period weapons, flags, uniforms and photographs. An exhibit displays the liberation of concentration camps, including Hurlach and Schwabigg, by the 12th Armored Division. A seven-part 3-D diorama depicts the 1945 Herrlisheim battle and veterans describe their experiences in video presentations. Ninety-minute audio tours are available.
