AAA Editor Notes
The University of Texas at Austin is bounded by Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Guadalupe and Red River sts. Chartered in 1883, the Austin campus is the keystone of the statewide university system. It boasts one of the largest endowments of any public university and is a noted national research center with several internationally renowned scholars on its faculty, including a Nobel laureate.

Nicknamed the "Forty Acres" after the original 1883 footprint, the University of Texas at Austin's main campus now is a 431-acre urban oasis. Campus walking tours are offered daily through the welcome center at Perry-Casteñeda Library/PCL (101 E. 21st St.)—one of the largest academic libraries in North America and home to some 70 miles of book stacks.

Guided tours are available.
