Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site is 30 mi. e. on US 62/180, then 8 mi. n. on FM 2775 to 6900 Hueco Tanks Rd., #1. Used for almost 10,000 years, these rock basins, or huecos, collect rainwater. Some 2,000 pictographs and historic ruins serve as a legacy of the successive cultures that lived in the area. Bird-watching, hiking, rock climbing and camping opportunities are available.

Visitors are required to view an orientation video before entering. A maximum of 70 people are allowed access for self-guiding tours per day; reservations are recommended. Picnicking is permitted; restrictions apply to use of fire.
