Mission San Francisco de la Espada, 10040 Espada Rd., is in San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Founded in 1690 in East Texas as San Francisco de los Tejas, this first mission in the province of Texas was relocated to its present site in 1731 and renamed Mission San Francisco de la Espada. The chapel doorway reflects Moorish influence.

Wool from the sheep once raised at Rancho de las Cabras would be washed, spun and woven at the missions. Visitors can view a working loom in the Contact Station at Mission Espada, and on Monday afternoons live weaving demonstrations are offered.

Guided tours are available. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Picnicking is permitted.
