Caverns of Sonora is 8 mi. n.w. off I-10 exit 392 and 7 mi. s. on Cavern Rd. (Ranch Rd. 1989). A 1.75-mile trail winds through the cave, where the temperature is a constant 70 degrees F with 98 percent humidity. Stalagmites, stalactites and helictites cover the walls, ceiling and floor of the cave. These translucent formations exhibit a wide range of natural colors.

The guided Crystal Palace Tour lasts 1 hour, 45 minutes and takes visitors through the original entrance, covering the 1.75-mile interior and all of the cave's major features, including Horseshoe Lake, the Corinthian Room and the Crystal Palace Room.

Tours involve climbing stairs. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Backpacks, purses and camera bags are not permitted.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
